Trent Roleau and Nick Simpson Receive Honors
Senior forward Trent Roleau was named the YSCC Player of the Week on the strength of his outstanding performances against Fisher College and Green Mountain College. Against Fisher, Trent was perfect from the field (6-6 and 2-2 from 3 pt range). He hit 3-4 from the foul line for 17 points total. He added 8 rebounds. Against Green Mountain, Trent scored 24 points (hitting 8-15 from the field and 8-10 FT). Trent hauled in 16 rebounds.
“Trent is one of our most valuable players,” commented Coach John Dyer. “He is absolutely dominant on the defensive boards and he shoots an incredibly high percentage. Most importantly, he is a leader. I’m really happy the league chose to recognize Trent. So much of what he does doesn’t appear in the boxscore.”
His teammate, Nick Simpson, was named USCAA National Player of the Week for the third time this season. “I don’t ever recall a player winning this award three times in the same year. We’ll have to check on it, but my guess is that its never been done before, commented Coach John Dyer. “No one deserves it more. Nick is having a dream year—he’s a sure fire All American candidate.”
Simpson scored 56 points in two games last week; hitting 53% from the field. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished 9 assists. In the closing seconds against Fisher College, Simpson grabbed an offensive rebound and put up a fade away jumper as the clock expired. The ball swished through the net, giving Vermont Tech a 96-94 victory.
