Knights Roll Over Roos for 24th Victory
Vermont Tech travelled to Potsdam, NY to take on Sunrise foe SUNY/Canton on Sunday. The Knights opened the game with a 9-0 run, then played somewhat sluggishly for the remainder of the first half, taking a six point lead into the locker room at halftime, 38-32.
“Our defense left a great deal to be desired after Trent Roleau left the game with two fouls. We started out strong, but we seemed to lack the defensive intensity we have been trying to build as we head toward the playoffs. We talked about it at halftime and the guys really translated words into action. SUNY/Canton only scored 27 points in the second half. I’m especially proud of these guys because most of the team is feeling under the weather. Five of our guys have been fighting the flu bug. The last thing a player feels like doing when he is feeling weak is play intense defense.”
Kevin Carr led the Knights with a game high 30 points. Nick Simpson pumped in 20 points, freshman NiikAwei General-Vanderpui added 14 points and 9 rebounds and Trent Roleau chipped in with 10 points.
The Knights came out very strong in the second half. They went on an 9-0 run on four free throws and a basket by Kevin Carr and a three point shot by Kwei General 17 minutes remaining to open a 16 point lead. Two minutes later the lead was at 20 points and the Knights never looked back.
The win makes the Knights 24-4 on the season and 8-4 in the Sunrise Conference.
