Lady Knights Defeated by Roos
Fischer Saves 19, but Roos Win 4-0
Randolph Center, VT - On a chilly, drizzly day in Randolph the Roos from SUNY Canton were able to best the Lady Knights of Vermont Tech by a final of 4-0. The loss drops the Knights to 3-7, 1-3, while SUNY raised their record to just over .500 at 6-5.
In net for the Knights was Freshman Mallory Fischer (Jericho, VT) in place of regular goalkeeper Elise Coolbeth (So./Wolcott, VT). Fischer did an admirable job, making 19 saves on 23 shots on goal from the Roos. In total, the visitors took a whopping 38 shots, compared to the home team taking just five total, four in the first, one in the second with three of those being on goal.
The first half was controlled in terms of possession by the Roos, with a constant attack on the Knights' side of the field. Vermont Tech relied on their freshman goalie and bend but don't break defense headed by Alysha Jones (Fr./Morrisville, VT) to keep the game scoreless. Despite several shots being fired, including two in the closing minutes of the half, the game remained 0-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes of play.
Early in the second half, the Roos got on the board with Franchesca Trombley hitting the back of the net at 48:36, assisted by Katlyn Hary and Jackie Sedlacek. The rain continued to lightly fall, making the pitch slippery and footing more treacherous. Canton, however, was not worrying about the weather, as they scored again at 66:40. This time Jade Sayward found the goal, with Sedlacek racking up another point by way of assist. At 85:20 the Roos added another, and then Sedlacek capped off her stellar game with a final goal only a minute before the end of the game to finalize the scoring.
Halie Shea (So./Lisbon, NH) had two shots for the Knights.
The Knights next get back to YSCC play, as they host Paul Smith's College on Sunday, September 30 at 12pm.
