Randolph Center, VT - Defending USCAA Women's Soccer National Champion University of Maine Fort Kent defeat Vermont Tech Lady Knights 9-0.
The undefeated women's soccer team from University of Maine Fort Kent (7-0) were simply too much for the Lady Knights of Vermont Tech (3-4, 1-1) on Saturday, September 22nd. Despite home field advantage and an early start of 11:00am, the Bengals jumped on the Knights quickly and never relented. At 11:27 the visitors opened the scoring with a goal by Katherine Ferland. Her first was one of five in the half for Fort Kent, of which she alone accounted for three.
The second half saw a goalie change for Vermont Tech, from Elise Coolbeth (So./Wolcott, VT) to Mallory Fischer (Fr./Jericho, VT), but this did nothing to dissuade the Bengals from their attack. Fort Kent added another four goals, which came on 13 shots in the half. For the game, Fort Kent recorded 35 total shots, with 20 on goal, as compared to the Lady Knights who could only muster three shots for the game and none in the second half. Coolbeth saved six of the 11 shots on goal faced, while Fischer saved five of nine.
The Knights get an opportunity on Sunday to put this game out of their minds, as they will battle YSCC opponent Hampshire College for the second time this season, this time at home. In their first match-up, VTC grabbed a close win by the final of 2-1. Kick is scheduled for 12:00pm.
