LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Sarah Cornell and Emily Strese scored two goals each as Lyndon earned its first win of the 2012 season, a 5-0 victory over Vermont Tech.
Kaitlyn Conley gave the Hornets the lead for good at the 8:31 mark of the first half with her first goal of the season off an assist from Cornell. At 23:06, Cornell made it 2-0 off a corner kick from Strese before Strese upped the advantage to three goals less than eight minutes later heading home a cross from Cornell.
In the second half, Cornell headed home a cross from Ceili Grinnell at 64:26 and Strese closed out the scoring in the contest in the final 10 minutes of play by blasting home an unassisted goal from the right wing.
Shelby Alger, making her collegiate start of her career, recorded the shutout and did not face a shot-on-goal in the contest. Green Knights goalkeeper Mallory Fischer made 12 saves in net as Lyndon outshot Vermont Tech by a margin of 32-0.
The ladies of Vermont Tech next play the Falcons of Fisher College at home on Sunday, September 9th at 1pm.
