Winnicker Hired as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Coach of Women's Basketball
Athletic Director Jenn Norton-Magnan announced today Alex Winnicker as the new Assistant Athletic Director and Head Coach of Women's Basketball at VTC. Winnicker spent the last year as Assistant Coach of Women's Basketball, Head Coach of Women's Cross Country and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Coordinator at Daniel Webster College (Nashua, NH).
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Winnicker brings with him passion, energy and innovative ideas that have helped him achieve success in athletics at various levels. An Alum of Penn State University, he adheres to their traditional model of Success with Honor and the ideals therein of recruiting athletes that are serious about their degrees and love to play basketball. He is confident this mindset will positively affect the entire athletic department and compliment its new direction as set out by newly appointed President Dr. Philip Conroy and Athletic Director Jenn Norton-Magnan.
In his one year at Daniel Webster, Winnicker helped lead the Eagles to an 18-11 record, a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship and a NCAA Division III Tournament berth. This is the only championship or NCAA Tournament berth in the history of the school. In addition to aiding in team success, Winnicker also worked on improving the individual skills of the athletes, which included further developing the talents of the 2010-2011 NECC Player of the Year.
For two years he was an Assistant Coach for the Men's Basketball Team at NCAA Division III Kean University (Union, NJ). While there he benefitted under the tutelage of former Seton Hall University and current St. Peter's College Assistant Coach Bruce Hamburger. Coach Hamburger is the school's all-time Men's Basketball wins leader and a fixture in New Jersey college basketball. In his two years, the Cougars were 32-24 in the regular season, and were always in top form at the end of the year. The team was Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Region Champions and Runner-ups, respectively, during Winnicker's time at the school.
In addition to his collegiate accomplishments, Winnicker has also coached at the high school level. He served three years as the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Head Boys' Basketball Coach at Ranney School, an exclusive private school in New Jersey. While there he earned praise for his innovative and engaging training methods. Winnicker trained every team at the school, putting them through rigorous sport-specific workouts throughout the entire year.
Winnicker graduated in 2002 from Penn State University with a degree in History. While at Kean, he earned a Masters in Organizational Communication. During the past year he earned a Master of Education in Athletic Administration from Endicott College (Beverly, MA).
