New Design Adorns Vermont Tech Home Basketball Court
Knights ready to open 2011/12 season tomorrow on newly painted court
Vermont Tech has proudly unveiled the newly refinished and refurbished basketball court located in the SHAPE Fitness Center on the main campus of Randolph Center, VT.
For the 2011-2012 year, students, athletes and fans alike will be able to enjoy a court design framed in vibrant green with bright white lines denoting the various demarcations. The court is the traditional wood color with the exception of the free throw lanes, which are the same green as the framing.
At center court is perhaps the most impressive aspect of the new floor, featuring a hand-painted version of the new Green Knight logo. The artist took two full days to complete the meticulous painting.
The court now satisfies all NCAA regulations for a legal basketball court. A change one will notice is a solitary three-point line, as opposed to different lines for men's and women's teams. The NCAA proposed and passed a rule change in May moving the women's three-point line back one foot to 20'9", the same as the men.
The court has been open for general usage since the start of the year, and for the basketball teams for the past few weeks as they prepare for their home openers. Both the men and women open the regular season on Tuesday, November 8th versus Hampshire College, with the women playing at 6:00pm and the men at 8:00pm.
