MEN'S BASKETBALL KNOCK OFF DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS
Randolph eliminates the defending national champions
Randolph Center, VT: The Vermont State University Randolph men's basketball team sent shockwaves around the United State Collegiate Athletic Association by doing something that no school has been able to do in two years; and thats knock off the two time defending national champs Penn State- Wilkes Barre. The Knights entered the game as a heavy underdog, but showed early in the game that they weren't backing down. Not only did the Knights win, they dominated the second half and beat the Lions 80-67.
VTSU Randolph knew it was going to take everyone to be able to win this game, and they got contributions from everyone who entered the game. Jaden Clark who is known for his defensive prowers had a big night offensively scoring a career high 23 points. Jaylon Calvin once again did Calvin like things and out up a double- double with 17 points and 11 assist. Shandon Danne- Anderson and Tyler Allen also was in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively. Timely 3 pointers by Xzavier Ivey put the game out of reach for the Knights. The story of the Knight was the great defensive performance by the Mohamed Conde and Shandon who held first team All American Jedidiah Ashton to 8 points on only 4 FG attempts. " I thought that was the story of the game."Coach Hughes said. "I am proud of the way every contributed to this victory, but Mo's selfliness and toughness on the boards was huge. He set the tone of the game and I think that's why our title hopes are still alive.
The Knights will face off against #1 seed Penn State Mont Alto in the Elite 8 tomorrow at 8:15pm.
