MEN'S BASKETBALL LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST VTSU - LYNDON
Lyndonville, VT: The Vermont State Randolph men's basketball team traveled to Lyndon, VT to take on their sister campus, VTSU- Lyndon. This was the teams second time meeting this season with the Knights winning in early November. The Hornets would avenge that loss and held on to beat the Knights 87-83, despite a late rally by the Knights.
The first half was a back and forth game that saw 7 lead changes. After exchanging blows, the Hornets went on a 15-6 run to close the half and take 45-37 lead into the half. The Hornets continued some hot shooting to start the 2nd half and pushed the lead to 14 with 9 minutes to go in the contest. The Knights kept battling and found themselves down only 4 with 1:24 83-79 to go and the ball, but couldn't convert. The Knights still had a chance after Will Jenkins sole the ball and found Xzavier Ivey for a 3 to cut it to 1. Lyndon would hit their free throws down the stretch while the Knights struggled from the line all night going 9-20 from the charity stripe. Lyndon sealed the game hitting 4 free throws to give them a 87-83 win. " That was the game" coach Jamal Hughes said. " When you are on the road, you have to be able to convert easy baskets and make free throws and we didn't do that tonight. With that being said, I'm always proud of how we fight and keep coming at you, but if you want to be a great team you have to find away to win these types of games. "
