Cross Country Invitational Race Proceeds to be donated to Hurricane Harvey victims
(RANDOLPH) – Vermont Tech Athletics will host their 7th Annual Collegiate Cross Country Invitational and Citizens 5K Race on Saturday, September 9th 2017. The Collegiate Race will play host to as many as 10 different Colleges, including some top notch competition from Middlebury College, Southern New Hampshire University, University of Maine Augusta, and others. Vermont Tech's senior captain and current women's course record holder Rebecca Broadbent (North Dighton, MA) will be racing to defend her course record, backed by a solid team of 4 new Vermont Tech teammates: Emily O'Neill, Jocyndia Turinetti, Hayley Allard and Nicole Cutler. On the men's side, Vermont Tech has a strong team, led by captain David Mattern, and hopes to compete for the top team spot. Men's team members include returners Scott Durkee and Tyler Gammell; Jonathan Puffer, Michael Dunkle, Jacob Beaulier, Sam Stocks, Ian Miller and Matthew Kelly and Allan Wheeler. Other Collegiate teams have an incentive to beat VTC, however, because Vermont Tech coach Bob Dunkle is offering all teams who beat the hosts a gallon of homemade maple syrup.
This year's citizens race will be special, as the Vermont Tech Cross Country Team has dedicated the Race as the 'RUN FOR TEXAS 5K' and all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to help with victims of Hurricane Harvey. On-line race registration is available at https://g2racereg.webconnex.com/knights5k2017 and race day registration will be available on site for $20. Donations will be accepted as well, checks should be made payabe to VTC Athletics and can be mailed to Athletics, PO Box 500, Randolph Center, VT 05061.
All three races are being hosted on Vermont Tech's famed Cross Country Course on our campus in Randolph Center, where racers can look forward to fast competition on a mix of gravel, grass, apple orchard, and grassy fields, and spectators can get a truly unique viewing experience, with multiple vantage points along the course route include that cover nearly 70% of the 5K race course.
