Ama Baker Named YSCC Player of the Week
Randolph Center, VT - Junior Point Guard Ama Baker (Fitchburg, MA) was named Yankee Small College Conference Player of the week for the week of February 11, 2013.
In three games spanning February 5th to the 9th, Baker averaged 18.67 points, 5.67 rebounds, 5.33 assists and 2.3 steals per game. This included an outburst of 26 points on the road versus the College of St. Joseph's (VT). Against St. Joe's, when taking into account her points and 6 assists, she was directly responsible for 41 of the teams' total of 63 points.
She was integral in helping the Knights pull out a two-point home victory against Fisher College of the NAIA. In that game she played 39 minutes, and filled the stat sheet scoring 13, assisting on 7 additional buckets, grabbing 4 rebounds and snatching 4 steals.
Playing from the point guard position almost every minute of the three-game stretch, Baker was still able to achieve a 1.14 assist-to-turnover ratio.
In addition, Baker shot an incredible 86% from the free throw line, hitting on 18 of 21, including a 9 for 9 performance at St. Joe's and going 4 for 4 against the University of Maine Presque Isle.
The honor is the second such for Baker, as she also received the YSCC POW award in the last regular season week of the year during the 2011-2012 season.
