Kelly Vellek Receives YSCC Women's Basketball POW Honors
Randolph Center, VT - Senior Shooting Guard and Captain Kelly Vellek (Burlington, VT) was named the Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Week for the week of December 10, 2012.
Vellek was honored in part because of her career accomplishment of scoring her 1000th point in this past Wednesday's game against YSCC opponent NHTI. Vellek has helped lead the Lady Knights throughout the season, excelling as the third leading scorer in the nation and top scorer in the YSCC at 21.6ppg. She is only the second player in Vermont Tech Women's Basketball history to reach the 1,000 point plateau, the other being Eliza Wakefield who reached the mark in 2010.
This is the second YSCC POW award for Vellek this season, and the third for Vermont Tech overall, with the other going to men's basketball standout Josh Lindsey. To go along with the YSCC Player of the Week awards, Vellek has also previously this season earned a USCAA POW honor.
The Lady Knights are finished until January, but completed the first semester 6-4 and are second in the Western Division of the YSCC.
