Randolph Center, VT - On Wednesday evening, the Knights of Vermont Tech easily dispatched the men's basketball team of Northern Maine, 87-50. The win raises the Knights record to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in the YSCC.
The Knights came out Wednesday night with a goal in mind, and that was to lead right from the beginning of the game and continuously extend that lead throughout the evening. Josh Lindsey (Sr./Palm Bay, FL) opended the flood gates with a layup just :16 into the game. Kyle Kissenberth (Fr./Winter Park, FL) hit a three just one minue later, and the rest of the team followed suit as the Knights hammered Northern Maine in the opening minutes. Five minutes and two Northern Maine timeouts later, the score was 19-0 in favor of the home team.
The Knights continued to their stellar play while Northern Maine struggled to keep up. Andrew Scott (Fr./Melbourne, FL) capped the first half by hitting a jumper with just 9 seconds left. The Knights had completely controlled the period, subduing the offense of Northern Maine while theirs hit on all cylinders, shooting 60%. At the half the score was 58-18.
The second half was slightly different, with Vermont Tech slowing it down, using the clock to their advantage, while Northern Maine did their best to bring the score differential closer. In the end, Northern Maine actually won the second half 32-29, but lost the war in that Vermont Tech held a 37 point advantage at the end of the game.
Kissenberth and Scott led the Knights in scoring, both hitting for 17. Sam Marler (Fr./Sydney, Australia) had another solid performance at point scoring 10, dishing 5 assists and grabbing 5 steals. Senior Alex Tyrrell (Sydney, Australia) led the team with 11 assists. Percy Bannerman (Fr./Essex Junction, VT) contributed with the first double digit scoring performance of his career, he scored 10.
For Northern Maine, Sam Joy and Matt Till both had 17 points. Alex Myers led the team both in rebounds and assists, with 7 and 5, respectively.
The Knights next host another home contest, with the Roos of SUNY Canton coming to town on Friday, January 11th. Tip time is 7pm, preceded by the women's basketball game at 5pm.
