Falcons Defeat VTC Men
Tyrrell Scores 19, Lindsey 14
Lynn, MA - In men's basketball action last night, the Knights of Vermont Tech fell to the Falcons of Fisher College by the final of 74-65.
The first half was incredibly even, with the lead going back and forth between the two teams and never being more than a few points to either side. Senior Captain Alex Tyrrell (Sydney, Australia) spearheaded the attack for the Knights, scoring 17 of his 19 points for the game in the half, while Ryan McCorckle led the Falcons in the half scoring 10 of his eventual 16 points in the first 20 minutes.
Fisher used some good shooting in the first half to keep the game even, while Vermont Tech relied more on three pointers, hitting on 5 of 13, and free throws, hitting on 7 of 10 to keep the game within reach. Going into the halftime break, Fisher led the Knights by a mere point, 37-36.
The second half saw more of the same, with tough physical play dominating the flow of the game. The small size of the court, high school size as opposed to the normal college length and width, made fast breaks difficult and kept the emphasis on strength and offensive/defensive efficiency. Both teams understood the importance of every possession as the game wore on. Josh Lindsey (Sr./Palm Bay, FL) and Andrew Scott (Fr./Melbourne, FL) led the Knights in the second session, each putting up 9 points. Those points propelled Lindsey to a total of 14 and Scott with a total of 11 for the game. Scott also led the team in rebounds with 9.
Fisher completely controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Knights 44-30. That margin led to Fisher having a 27-4 advantage in 2nd chance points, which undoubtedly aided the Falcons in their attempt at victory. Dana Hines secured a double-double for the Falcons with 15 points, 10 rebounds.
Point guard Sam Marler (Fr./Sydney, Australia) contributed for VTC by playing the entire 40 minutes and dishing out 9 assists to go with his 6 points.
The men are now 1-1, 1-0 and will next face YSCC opponent Eastern Maine on Saturday, November 10th at 6pm.
