Women's Soccer Falls 6-1 to Unity College

Unity College proved to be too much for the Green Knights in Sunday's soccer action as the Green Knights allowed 6 goals and dropped a 6-1 decision.
Vermont Tech was able to strike first in the 10th minute as Freshmen Katelyn Newton (Morrisville, VT) scored her first collegiate goal. Newton was able to capitalize on a Unity foul 20 –yards out, wasting no time and getting a shot off while the wall was setting up. The Rams goalkeeper Ashia Prior was able to get her hands on the ball but could not hold on to it, putting the Green Knights up 1-0.
Unity quickly organized and took control of the game scoring the next six goals of the match. In the 14th minute Devon Funt scored on a fast break and would then score her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute of the game. Mariza Gionfriddo earned her first hat trick of the season, and Carly Davis rounded out the scoring for Unity College.
Sophomore Dani Cochran (St. Johnsbury, VT) made seven saves on the day for the Green Knights and Prior made four for the Rams.
Next up: Vermont Tech will take to the field on Saturday September 12, 2015 to take on YSCC Conference opponent Paul Smith's College. Kick-off is set for 2:00pm
