With A Schedule That Boasts 16 Games Vs Top 10 Schools, This May Be The Season The Lady Knight's Get Into The National Tourney.
Randolph, VA - As we begin a new season, the Vermont Tech Lady Knight's will face another tough non-conference slate in the 2019-2020 season.
Vermont Tech at Post University (Nov. 8, Waterbury, CT) and Vermont Tech will be meeting for the first time in program history. Post, NCAA DII, finished the 2018-19 season (10-9) 3rd in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, (CACC). Overall going 14-14.
Post will be returning their leading scorer, Sha'Raya Haines, 13.0 ppg, 4.4 RPG 1.4 ast. and Melanie Polanco, 11ppg, 3.9 RPG, 1.1 STL.
Post University is coached by 2nd the year Head Coach, Jon Plefka. Plefka played collegiately under Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight at Texas Tech. In his senior season in 2007, he helped lead the team to two victories over nationally-ranked teams and a #10 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Plefka was also a part of the legendary coach's 880th career victory, which was the most in Division I history at the time. He was named Big 12 First Team All-Academic in his final season in Lubbock and graduated cum laude in 2007 with a Bachelor's in Human Development and Family Studies.
Randolph Macon College (Nov. 9, Ashland, VA) and Vermont Tech will be meeting for the first time in program history. #4 Randolph Macon, NCAA DIII, finished the 2018-19 season, (18-9), (12-6 #4 in ODAC). RMC will return their three top scorers. Kelly Williams Jr 19.3 ppg 15.1 rebs, Michal Ross Jr 14.7 ppg 5.4 rebs. Charlotte Woods Jr 10.8 ppg 10.5 rebs RMC is coached by three-time ODAC Coach of the Year, Carroll LaHaye, she directed her teams to 10 consecutive winning seasons from 2002-03 to 2011-12 and 22 overall during her time in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets have posted 13 seasons in which they have won 20 or more games and have played for the ODAC title on 11 occasions. Since joining the ODAC in 1989-90, R-MC has won a staggering 74% of its games, earning 372 victories over their conference foes during that time. LaHaye's squads have garnered national attention, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 on four occasions, trips to the Elite 8 twice and a place in the 2005 National Championship Game.
Eastern Mennonite (Nov. 10 Ashland, VA) - 10-16 (7-11 ODAC) Coach: Jenny Logan (10-16 overall, 7-11 ODAC in one season) Statistical Leaders: - Forward Chrissy Delawder led the ODAC in 3-Point Shooting Percentage at 45.9%. - Forward Lexi Dean was tied for second in the ODAC in Blocks/Game with 1.8 and fifth in FG Shooting Percentage at 53.3%. - Senior Lindsey Krisak averaged 3.2 Assists/Game for eighth amongst ODAC leaders. - Sophomore Emily McCombs led the team with 9.8 PPG. Season Highlights: - Won the first game of the season at home against Apprentice. - Earned the first conference win holding on to win against Virginia Wesleyan at home. - Forced overtime with 0.4 seconds left, then won by four in the regular-season matchup against Roanoke. - Came away with a win against Shenandoah in the first-ever Rowdy Royal Game.
