Shaw Comes Up Big; Knights Win on Hilson's Senior Night
Infront of a great crowd, the Vermont Tech Men's Basketball team celebrated Tyrone Hilson's Senior Night with a 77-72 win over Green Mountain College.
With 2:45 left to go in the game, Green Mountain Junior Greg Alexander sinks a layup and gives the eagles a 69-65 lead. The Knights have the ball. Jeremiah Shaw rips hard to the left, pulls back to the rights, drains a three. Eric Montanez comes up with a steal. This time Shaw rips had to the right, pulls back left, drains a three. Knights have a 71-69 led. Eagles ball, and on the missed shot attempt they get the offensive rebound, make the shot, and are fouled in the process. Demauriaye Smith steps to the line and completes the three point play. Eagles lead 72-71. The shot clock winds down for the Knights, Shaw again has the ball, drives hard to the right, is fouled as he puts up the floater, sinks it and the free throw. Knights led 74-72 with 45 seconds to play. Defensive stops and made free throws would give the Knights a 77-72 victory.
Head Coach Alex Tyrrell was very pleased to get a great in on Senior Night.
"Winning on Senior Night is always very special", said Coach Tyrrell. "But the way we won tonight against a quality Green Mountain team really emphasises why we've had such a strong second semester".
"Ty has had a great career here at Vermont Tech, along with his career at Olive Harvey CC", Coach added about the Senior Captain. "While we are proud of him for his play, we cannot wait to see him walk across the stage this May. It will be a special day".
Jeremiah Shaw led the Knights with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Tyrone Hilson added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Dajuan Johnson scored a season high 17 points off only eight shots.
The Knights finish the regular season 21-8, and 13-3 in Conference play.
