VTSU RANDOLPH FALLS 4–0 AT PAUL SMITH’S COLLEGE
Vermont State University Randolph women's soccer battled hard on the road Wednesday evening but came up short in a 4–0 loss to Paul Smith's College at the PSC Soccer Field.
The Bobcats put heavy pressure on Randolph's defense throughout the match, firing 38 shots with 27 on target. Despite the relentless attack, VTSU goalkeeper Deanna Heintz delivered a standout performance, recording 18 saves in 90 minutes of play and keeping Randolph within reach for much of the night.
Paul Smith's opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a goal from Pailin Hample, assisted by Matti Swan. Just three minutes later, Swan found the back of the net herself, finishing off a setup from Scarlett Faber. The early flurry gave Randolph a 2–0 halftime deficit.
In the second half, Randolph's defense continued to absorb pressure, but the hosts added two more goals. Swan netted her second of the evening in the 53rd minute on an unassisted effort, and Hample struck again in the 66th minute to seal the final score at 4–0.
Randolph's offense found limited chances against a strong defensive effort. Yvonne Roberge recorded the team's lone shot on goal, testing Paul Smith's goalkeeper Peyton Hoffman in the second half. The Knights were held without a corner kick, while Paul Smith's tallied nine.
Though the result was difficult, Randolph showed resilience, with Heintz's commanding play in goal standing out as a highlight. The Knights will look to rebound on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host Southern Maine Community College, aiming for their first win of the season.
