Women's soccer takes first conference win of the season
Randolph Centre, VT - The Vermont Tech women's soccer team took thier conference win this season at Homecoming on Saturday .
The game was well played on both sides. Vermont Tech was on the defensive side to begin the game, but then began to change the tide and bring the possession to the offensive side of the pitch. Paul Smith's starting strikers were out for this match but their replacements brought a lot of attack in their stead. Two of thier top strikers gave a lot of pressure offensively but couldn't capitalize on any offensive attack. The Knights were successful at the 31:11 minute mark on a dead ball foul which left the foot of sophomore Jennifer Grenier from the 50 yard mark to then be struck by the head of freshman Jordan Bean, and go over the outstretched arm of Paul Smith's goalie Racheal Michaels. The Paul Smith Bobcats out shot the Lady Knights 15-3 but Juniot goalie Ashley Thompson recorded her first shutout in VTC's first conference victory in over 4 years.
Defenders Kate Rowley, Kiana Royer and Dayna Goodell were instrumental in our victory and shutout as were Tucker Chapin and Grenier at holding center midfielders. Sabrina Gardell and Cierra Favreau helped out the cause greatly by keeping possession and moving the ball up the field. Kyra Becker and Marina Sprague were nonstop movers on the outside for the Knights today helping get the ball up field as well as being extremely defensively minded against a tough Bobcats team.
Kate Rowley and Tucker Chapin, along with Kiana, and Dayna really sealed the game for us by keeping the Bobcats shots on goal limited to help make Ashley's job easier. VTC Lady Knights square off against Maine Machias next Saturday at 2pm in another conference battle to be followed by another conference game against Unity college the next day.
