WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALL TO SEAWOLVES IN YSCC QUARTERFINALS
Historic Season for women ends in South Portland
South Portland, ME – The Vermont State University Randolph women's basketball team faced Southern Maine CC in the quarterfinals of the Yankee Conference, battling for a chance to advance to the semifinals. VTSU-Randolph had a strong start, leading by six points at halftime, with Marielle Benoit making a significant impact by contributing 19 points.
The first half remained competitive, but the Knights fought hard to maintain their lead over the Seawolves. VTSU-Randolph shot 34.9% from the field and 21.7% from three-point range, relying on tough defense and strong positioning on the court. Yvonne Roberge led the team with five points in the first half, while Benoit took over in the second half, adding 15 points to the Knights' total.
As the game progressed, the Knights saw their lead slip away. With about eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Seawolves tied the game. The Knights continued to battle, holding their opponents even until the four-minute mark. However, they ultimately struggled to regain control, falling behind in the closing moments. Despite their efforts, the Knights were unable to secure a victory and did not advance to the semifinals.
The Lady Knights end the season with an 11-11 record.
