JAYLON CALVIN WINS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Calvin becomes the first in school history to win National Player of the Year
Richmond, VA: This past Saturday, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) held their national award ceremony. Vermont State Randolph's Jaylon Calvin, a junior guard from Houston,TX was named the national player of the year. Calvin received 4 out of the 7 votes from the committee to become the first player in VTSU- Randolph's (formerly known as Vermont Tech) long history of competing in intercollegiate sports to win the national player of the year. Last weekend, Jaylon was named the Yankee Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row. " He is special, really special." Head Coach Jamal Hughes said about Calvin." He does everything right, on and off the court. All he wants to do is win and I think his all-around play shows that. This is a big not only for him and his family, but our athletic program, our campus, our community, and Vermont State University as a whole." Jaylon is coming off an historic season where he averaged 22ppg, 6.4 asp and 6.4 rebs all while shooting 41% from 3pt range. He also led the Knights to a #2 ranking in the national polls in December. The Knights stayed in the top 10 nationally for most of the season before falling out in the last week.
