Baseball Goes 1-3 Over the Weekend at Southern Maine
Offensive output carries first game win 17-11, then men drop 3 straight
South Portland, ME
Vermont Tech and Southern Maine Community College baseball teams split their Yankee Small Conference doubleheader match-up on Saturday, April 14th.
The Knights exploded offensively in the early afternoon, putting a 17 spot on the board. Although SMCC also had an excellent hitting day, their 11 runs were not enough as VTC took the first game 17-11. The second game of the day was a much more defensive effort, with the Knights dropping the game 3-2.
On Sunday, April 15th the Knights simply never quite got it going. Game one was a close contest that went down to the wire with the Seawolves of SMCC coming out on top 6-5. SMCC controlled game two from the first pitch, shutting down the bats of Vermont Tech and cruising to a 9-1 victory.
SMCC Freshman pitcher Andrew Richards (South Portland, ME) showed remarkable control and velocity in game two. Throwing all seven innings, giving up only 2 hits, tallying 7 strikeouts and allowing no walks.
Vermont Tech now has a 6-16 record and next plays at home over the weekend of April 21st, where they talk on the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
