Women's Soccer goes down in home opener
Randolph Center, VT - The Knights first match of the season started off with one of our starters Brooke Bove getting injured before the game even started. She was able to play a few minutes before having to come off for the rest of the match. Once the game got rolling, Northern Vermont University -Johnson got an early goal on a breakaway that just barely got past Sophmore Goalie Paige Perkins. 15 minutes into the match NVU-Johnson got another goal, this time off of a corner kick. After that our Lady Knights settled in and didn't let in any other chances the entire match, including a fantastic stop by goalie Paige Perkins who made a great diving save to stop a penalty kick. Freshman Jennie Greniere played a great 30 minutes until she came off with an injury.
On the field in the second half, Kirstin Ward and Austen LaFrance played very well in the center of the field keeping Johnson out of our penalty area. Madison Distel, Sabrina Gardel and Cierra Favreau helped out on the outside wings and the back line when needed. Freshman Emily Grady almost put one away on a breakaway but the Johnson goalie just got her hand on it to deflect it wide. Freshman Tucker Chapin and Arianna Strand stepped in played some solid defense on the back line. We created a few opportunities in the 2nd half despite not having any substitutes for the last 60 minutes of the game. Megan Lewia came back to VTC this year and is playing soccer again for the Knights, she played over 10 years ago for the Knights. Come see us next Saturday at 2 and Sunday at 1 up at VTC!!
