MEN'S BASKETBALL TO PLAY IN " FIRST GAME IN AMERICA"
Randolp Center, VT: On October 26th, the Vermont State University Randolph men's basketball team will be participating in the first college basketball game in America. This includes all major levels such as the NCAA, USCAA, NAIA and NCCAA. VTSU Randolph will tip off the 2023-2024 college basketball season against the Fisher College Falcons at 12:01AM in Boston, MA." While most teams are preparing for scrimmages and exhibitions, we are preparing for a regular season game, so this is different for us."Coach Jamal Hughes said . "With that being said, we feel very fortunate to be a part of this game. It's not only great for the Randolph campus, but great for Vermont State University as a whole. This is also big for Fisher College. They have a lot of gameday activities for their campus set up, so it should be fun."
The Knights return the Yankee Conference Player of the Year and USCAA 1st team All- American Jaylon Calvin. " It means a lot to us and our university to be a part of the first game in America. It also brings a unique experience being able to play at midnight." Calvin said. Unique it is, as VTSU Randolph prepares to play at the midnight hour against a good Fisher team who has beaten the Knights the last 2 meetings. " It's good to see the excitement and anticipation from my players. However as a coach, all I'm focused on is having my guys ready to play and win a basketball game against a good team."
On July 1st, 2023, Vermont Tech, Castleton University and Northern Vermont University merged to form Vermont State University. VTSU Randolph participates in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and is a part of the the Yankee Small College Conference.
