Men’s Basketball Rolls to 8-0 Record
The Men’s Basketball team posted two impressive wins over YSCC rivals Southern Maine and Central Maine this weekend. The #1 ranked Knights rolled over the USCAA 5th ranked Southern Maine Seahawks 103-67 on Saturday, then bested a gritty Central Maine team, 85-78 on Sunday. The Knights are now a perfect 8-0 on the season and stand atop the Yankee Small College Conference with a 6-0 conference record.
Nick Simpson led the way against Southern Maine with 33 points. Freshman Kwei General-Vanderpui added 19 points and All American Kevin Carr finished with 17 points. Point guards Alex Tyrrell and John Robinson added 10 and 8 points respectively.
Sunday’s game against Central Maine was the Kevin Carr show. Kevin hit for 37 points, including five treys and hitting eight for nine from the foul line. Kevin scored 12 straight points to start the second half. Nick Simpson had 23 points—19 in the second half. Trent Roleau hit five field goals and was perfect from the foul line for 12 points.
“These were huge wins for us,” said Coach John Dyer after the Central Maine game. “It is always difficult to play these two teams back to back. The YSCC is an incredibly competitive conference. The Conference leaders tend to take turns beating each other. These wins should give us a slight toe hold on first place. Next up is NHTI. That game is always a barn burner. I’m really proud of how this team has come together. Everyone contributes. Kevin Carr and Nick Simpson are playing at an All American level—that’s been clear. However, everyone else is doing their job. Trent Roleau and Josh Lindsey are rebounding well. Alex Tyrrell is among the nation’s leaders in assists and free throw percentage. Kwei General-Vanderpui is doing an amazing job coming off the bench. John Robinson ignited us against S. Maine and Tony Louie has showed flashes of brilliance offensively and, especially, defensively. Tony is a defensive stopper.”
“Let’s hope we can keep things rolling.”
