Nick Simpson Leads Knights to Win Over Central Maine
Vermont Tech rolled to its tenth consecutive victory, 67-46, against long time rival Central Maine at CM’s Kirk Hall on Saturday. Nick Simpson hit for 30 points to lead the way for VTC. The Knights opened strong, racing to a 9-1 advantage in the first 90 seconds. Central Maine fought back to a two point deficit and the game remained close for most of the first half. Kevin Carr hit a long three pointer to put the Knights up by 12 with four minutes to play in the first half. At the half time buzzer, Vermont Tech was up by 14 points, 34-21. The Knights maintained that margin throughout the second half and gradually increased the lead. With three minutes left in the contest, the Knights opened their first twenty point advantage.
Kevin Carr and Alex Tyrrell contributed 12 points each. Trent Roleau had 11 rebounds.
Central Maine was able to slow down the tempo of the game, holding the Knights to their lowest point output of the season. “Central Maine was able to fully execute their game plan,” commented Coach John Dyer after the game. “They had two goals, control the number of possessions and contain Kevin Carr. They deserve credit because they achieved both goals. In our first match-up Kevin scorched them for 37 points. We expected that they would key on him today and they certainly did. Our guys adjusted to the pace and locked down on defense.”
The Knights are now 10-0 on the season and 8-0 in the YSCC.
