Knights Blow By Machias to Notch 14th Straight Win
Vermont Tech kept its winning streak alive by defeating Sunrise Conference rival University of Maine/Machias, 118-64, on Wednesday night at the SHAPE center.
The Green Knights opened with a 12-2 run and never looked back.
Junior guard Kevin Carr made Vermont Tech basketball history in the first half when he notched his 1,000th career point. Carr has played only one and half seasons for Vermont Tech. Last year he hit for 697 points. Thus far this season Carr is averaging 25 points per game.
Nick Simpson led the way for the Knights with 29 points. Trent Roleau dropped in 24 points, his second consecutive 20+ outing. Kwei General-Vanderpuije had 18 points. Point guard Alex Tyrrell finished with 9 points and 9 assists.
“This was a great win for us,” said Coach John Dyer after the game. “Everyone contributed. Machias has always been a tough match up for us. Tonight our guys simply came to play. Our running game was very effective. Kevin Carr and Alex Tyrrell looked like passing magicians at times. Both had eight assists. Trent, Kwei and Josh are pounding the boards effectively and Nick Simpson—well he’s everywhere! Its been fun. Let’s hope we can keep it rolling.”
